Taare Zameen Par is a 2007 Bollywood film directed by Aamir Khan, produced by Aamir Khan Productions, and initially conceived of and developed by the It also stars Khan and Darsheel Safary, features music by the trio, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, lyrics by Prasoon Joshi. The film tells the story of an eight year old child who suffers greatly until a teacher identifies him as dyslexic. It was released to theaters worldwide on 21 December 2007. The Indian DVD was released in Mumbai on 25 July 2008 and a Walt Disney edition was released overseas on 12 January 2010 as Like Stars On Earth(the first time an Indian film was released by Disney). Taare Zameen Par is also the winner of the 2008 Filmfare Best Movie Award and the 2008 National Film Award for Best Film.


Plot

Ishaan Nandkishore Awasthi (Darsheel Safary) is an eight-year old boy who hates school. Every subject is difficult for him and he perpetually fails his exams. He also lacks motor coordination skills and finds it difficult to throw a ball in a straight line. Rather than helping him, his teachers and classmates subject him to constant acts of public humiliation. At the same time, Ishaan's internal world is rich with wonders that no one else seems to appreciate: magical lands filled with color and animated animals. His forte is art, although no one realises this at first.

It is no better at home. His father, Nandkishore Awasthi (Vipin Sharma), is a successful and busy executive who expects the best from his boys. His mother, Maya Awasthi (Tisca Chopra), is a housewife who is perpetually frustrated by her inability to help Ishaan excel. Ishaan's elder brother Yohaan (Sachet Engineer) is a successful scholar/athlete, a fact which Ishaan is constantly reminded of. After discovering that Ishaan skipped (or "bunked") school, in addition to having poor grades, his parents decide that he needs to attend boarding school in order to be 'disciplined'.

The film stars Brad Pitt as a man who ages in reverse and Cate Blanchett as the love interest throughout his life. The film was released in the United States on December 25, 2008. The film received thirteen Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor for Pitt, and Best Supporting Actress for Taraji P. Henson. It won Oscars for Art Direction, Makeup, and Visual Effects.


Plot

Daisy (Cate Blanchett), an elderly woman, is on her deathbed in a New Orleans hospital as Hurricane Katrina approaches. Daisy tells her daughter, Caroline (Julia Ormond), the story of a blind clockmaker named Gateau who was commissioned to create a clock to hang in the New Orleans train station. After receiving news of his only son's death in World War I, he continued work on his clock, but intentionally designed it to run backward, in the hope that it would bring back those who died in the war. After her story, Daisy asks Caroline to read aloud from a diary containing photographs and postcards written by Benjamin Button (Brad Pitt).

Chameli is a Hindi movie, which was released in India on 31 December 2003. It stars Kareena Kapoor and Rahul Bose and is directed by Sudhir Mishra.


Plot


Chameli is the story of a prostitute played by Kareena Kapoor. Aman Kapoor an investment banker, lost his pregnant wife, Neha (Rinke Khanna) in a car accident on a rainy night. The accident left him depressed and lonely. He drowned his grief with alcohol and smoking. Chameli is a prostitute who was sold to a brothel by her uncle when she was young. She is now a tough, street-smart girl.On one rainy night, Aman and Chameli, two strangers, meet each other in South Mumbai.

Mostafa Sarwar Farooki’s Bangla Movie Bachelor follows the story of five bachelor friends — some of whom are in love, some who are trying to find relationships while the rest have declared war against the opposite sex and love. [Kaminey] Language: Hindi Genre: Action Drama



Kaminey is a 2009 Bollywood film directed by Vishal Bharadwaj featuring ShahidKapoor and Priyanka Chopra in the lead roles. The film has been regarded as a masterpiece and a landmark in Hindi cinema by most audiences and bagged the most votes for being the best Hindi film of 2009.


Plot

Guddu and Charlie (Shahid Kapoor in a double role) are identical twins who have grown up in the streets of Mumbai. Both brothers have a speech impediment – Charlie has a lisp, while Guddustutters in his speech. The film begins with a voice over narration by Charlie, who describes how he and his brother could never meet eye to eye, and Charlie's belief in taking shortcuts to fulfill his dream- to become abookie at a horse racing course, where he currently works for three Bengali goon brothers in fixing races. Guddu meanwhile works for a NGO in the city, raising AIDS awareness on the streets. He soon discovers that his girlfriend Sweety (Priyanka Chopra) is pregnant with their child.

  • On the whole, KAMINEY lives up to the hype associated with it.
  • All the ingredients of a typical masala film are there, but miraculously, director Vishal Bharawaj and his team manage to make Kaminey into a meaningful cinematic experience.

[The Mist] Language: English Genre: Thriller



The Mist is written and directed by Frank Darabont. The film features an ensemble cast including Thomas Jane, Nathan Gamble, Marcia Gay Harden, Laurie Holden, Toby Jones, Andre Braugher, Frances Sternhagen, and Sam Witwer. The Mist was commercially released in the United States and Canada on November 21, 2007. The Mist performed well at the box office and received generally positive reviews.


Plot

The morning after a violent thunderstorm, commercial artist David Drayton and his wife Stephanie witness an unusual mist moving towards their lakeside home. David and neighbor Brent Norton , along with David's eight-year-old son Billy , go to the local grocery store, which, like the rest of the community, was left without power. Seeing the mist roll over the parking lot and hearing the scream of a man who ventures outside, the store patrons heed Miller's advice and seal themselves within the store, which is soon shaken by violent tremors. With visibility reduced to near-zero outside and uncertainty surrounding the fate of the man heard screaming before, a siege mentality takes hold.

[Dev.D] Language: Hindi Genre: Romantic Drama


Dev.D is a Written and directed by Anurag Kashyap, the film is a modern day take on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's classic Bengali novel Devdas. Dev.D was embraced by the media, critics and public alike, and is considered to be amongst path breaking films in Hindi for the way it presented itself.


Plot

Dev is the son of a rich Punjabi Businessman. He and Paroare childhood sweethearts. But Dev, being an insecure arrogant guy, instead of acknowledging her affection and care, nudges Paro over frivolous things. Dev is sent to London for higher studies when his father senses how spoilt his son is. But while separated by distance, Paro and Dev's youthful love only blossoms more. Dev arrives in Chandigarh to meet Paro. When Dev hears rumours about Paro, he immediately believes them and ditches Paro. She turns her back on him when she hears him insult her, and agrees to marry whoever her parents choose. On her wedding day, he realizes that the rumors were false. But his ego doesn't let him accept his mistake, and he lets her marry someone else. Dev, tormented by Paro’s wedding, seeks alcohol and drugs. His escape to Delhi from Chandigarh, is as much a pursuit of his lost love. Ironically, his life always orbits around women. He is forced to cause self-destruction by one and rescued by another. In the end he realises that he was wrong and that maybe he never really loved Paro. He goes back to Chanda and lives with her thereafter.

Development

Anurag Kashyap did not want to do another remake of any the 9 previous films versions titled Devdas.
Kashyap decided he wanted to make his own version of Devdas to reflect the original novel but through 2008 mores, with the lead character of Devdas as a debauching, hypocritical sensualist, who is self destructive without knowing he is destroying himself.

  • Praising the performance of Abhay Deol and the movie overall.
  • Slick style and adventurous interpretation that pushes the boundaries of Hindi cinema.
